But I wanted to take a minute today to record Carter's reading progress. He's continuing to improve, getting more fluent by the day. He can easily read street signs, food packaging in the supermarket, newspaper headlines, and even sometimes reads my emails over my shoulder. He's learning to love books which is the main thing I'm excited about. We go to the library often so he always has a new stack of easy readers to go through.
Favorite thing: listening to him read to Amelia in the car. She holds the book and turns the pages, he reads for her. SO sweet!!
Here is a little clip of him discovering a new story from a library book. I remember reading this book to my brother when he was little... now here's my son reading it. Amazing how old that makes me feel. :)
The subtitles in case you need them:
"Now I will go find my mother, he said.
Down, down, down, it went. A long way down."
It was a long way down. He went like this: {sound effect}
"He could not fly but he could walk.
Then he came to a dog. Are you my mother?
I will go and look for her, he said. So away he went." Uh-oh.
"I am not your mother. I'm a dog, said the dog."
{Laughter...} this is a crazy book!
Please note: My intention in posting this is not to show off, or brag about what our little boy can do. His reading is completely a gift from God, and I really had very little to do with it except teaching him basic phonics when he was young. So my intention here is just to keep a record of his progress, and to celebrate the grace of God that's enabled Carter to catch on to reading and enjoy it. :)
